Disaster and Disorder
I thought I'd share a poem that my nephew wrote. For background, he's the stepson of my stepbrother, an uncontrollable 11 year-old British boy living in New Orleans in a beautiful old house in a pretty normal neighborhood for the area. He was of one of the luckier families during Hurricane Katrina, in that he, his mom and Jeff (my brother) packed up their stuff and their dogs in a tiny car and evacuated to Texas, where they lived with Jeff's grandmother, and Jeff and Vic got married. When they got back, things were okay at their home, but the city has more or less been in shambles ever since. He wrote this for a class in his fancy private school which is taught half in English and half in French, and he had to write a "I am from..." poem. It's better than what I would have written at 11.
